Hosts Bill and Vicki Schimeneck organized an awesome meet that began with driving tours on July 21st and 22rd. The first day of our tours through the picturesque Lehigh Valley began with a stop at C.F. Martin & Co., home of the legendary Martin guitar. We were treated to a personal guided tour which included all phases of production and a wonderful museum containing memorabilia belonging to Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, Tiny Tim, and Paul McCartney, to name just a few.

After a break for lunch, we traveled to Steel Stacks, on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel Company. Our guides, who were former employees of Bethlehem Steel, provided insight into the steel-making process and what it was like to work at the sprawling plant.

Driving tours on Friday took us to nearby Allentown, where we visited the Mack Trucks Historical Museum and to the America on Wheels museum which contains a unique collection of bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles, trucks and other vehicles that are a part of our country’s motor vehicle heritage.

On Saturday evening, 90 people attended the awards banquet to celebrate the conclusion of a fun and successful National Meet. In addition to our daytime activities, the Ice Cream Social, Fun Auction and Chinese Auction proved to be popular. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, members and participants, NCPC was able to make a donation of $1,500 to Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County.

If you didn’t make it to the National Meet in Bethlehem in 2016, you’re in luck because we’ll be back in 2017. Please make plans to join us!
